Animal-Kind International

Animal-Kind International raises funds and provides ongoing support for our Partner Organizations, local, community-based animal welfare organizations working in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Liberia, Namibia, South Sudan, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Honduras, and Jamaica; and we sponsor an annual Animal Welfare Grant Program for Africa and Latin America/Caribbean. Our 14 2026 grant recipients work in Ethiopia, Ghana, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Haiti, Honduras (2 grantees), Panama, and Peru. We also provide technical and administrative assistance to our supported organizations through our Friendly Audit Program that matches an organization with a virtual mentor. Our supported organizations help dogs, cats, donkeys, and horses, and operate a wide range of programs, including shelters and sanctuaries, humane education programs, spay/neuter programs (humane population management), street dog and cat (community animal) welfare, equine vet clinics, and more.

Animals Worked With

• Support for AKI Partner Organizations Our Partners are organizations that one or more AKI Board member has worked closely with, in-country; we know them well and understand their needs and challenges. We provide ongoing support to our Partner Organizations and fund their priority needs as long as they are animal welfare-related
• Animal Welfare Grant Program for Africa and Latin America/Caribbean animal welfare organizations Now in its 9th year, we sponsor an annual grant program for local, community-based organization
• Friendly Audit Program We match virtual mentors with organizations in Africa and Latin America/Caribbean to strengthen their technical and administrative capacities.

All of our Partner Organizations implement community education/outreach programs. Community outreach and humane education are well integrated into all of our Partners' programs.

Achievements

• We're supporting the Democratic Republic of Cong's only animal shelter, Sauvons nos Animaux, through natural disasters, pandemics, and war. Without our support, eastern Congo's cats and dogs would have no voice, no vet care, and no advocates. Sauvons nos Animaux cares for about 200 dogs and cats at their shelter, for which we provide about 95% of operating costs.
• We formed the South Sudan Society for the Protection & Care of Animals, the 1st local-based animal welfare organization in South Sudan and we are funding Kenya SPCA to provide technical support to South Sudanese vets, paravets, and community volunteers for the country's 1st large-scale spay/neuter campaign targeting 500 dogs and cats.
• We assisted in the formation of the 6 Freedoms in Ghana, and provide ongoing technical, administrative, and financial support for the country's first and only equine welfare organization, helping 100s of horses in Ghana live better lives.
