About BAM Animal Clinics BAM Animal Clinics is a Ugandan community-based animal welfare and veterinary organization established in 2009 to improve animal health, welfare, and the livelihoods of livestock-dependent communities. For over 17 years, we have worked to ensure that animals receive compassionate, accessible, and quality veterinary care while promoting the One Health approach that recognizes the close connection between animal, human, and environmental health. Our work includes community veterinary outreach, disease prevention and control, rabies vaccination campaigns, spay and neuter programmes, treatment of sick and injured animals, animal welfare education, and capacity building for veterinary professionals and livestock keepers. We also coordinate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes for veterinary professionals in Uganda and implement projects that strengthen animal welfare standards and sustainable livestock production. We serve a wide range of animals, including working donkeys, horses, cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, poultry, dogs, cats, rabbits, and other companion and farm animals. Special emphasis is placed on improving the welfare of working donkeys that support rural families through transport and agricultural activities. BAM Animal Clinics primarily works with rural and peri-urban communities across Eastern Uganda, partnering with local governments, veterinary professionals, community animal health workers, schools, and international organizations to promote responsible animal ownership, sustainable livelihoods, and resilient communities through improved animal welfare.

• Community Veterinary Outreach Program Provides affordable and accessible veterinary services, including diagnosis, treatment, vaccination, deworming, and disease prevention for livestock and companion animals in underserved rural and peri-urban communities across Uganda.
• Working Donkey Welfare Program Improves the health and welfare of working donkeys through veterinary treatment, owner education, humane handling training, and promotion of appropriate harnessing and husbandry practices for communities that rely on donkeys for transport and livelihoods.
• Rabies Prevention and One Health Program Conducts mass dog and cat rabies vaccination campaigns, community awareness, and responsible pet ownership education to protect both animal and public health through a One Health approach.
• Veterinary Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program Coordinates accredited Continuing Professional Development training for veterinary professionals and veterinary paraprofessionals to strengthen technical skills, animal welfare standard\s, and quality veterinary service delivery throughout Uganda.
• Animal Welfare Education and Community Capacity Building Delivers training, school outreach, farmer education, and community awareness programmes that promote humane animal care, disease prevention, improved livestock management, and sustainable livelihoods.
• Companion Animal Health and Population Management Program Provides clinical care, preventive healthcare, and spay/neuter services for dogs and cats to improve animal welfare, reduce unwanted animal populations, and promote responsible pet ownership.
• Livestock Health and Farmer Advisory Services Supports livestock keepers through herd and flock health management, disease surveillance, biosecurity guidance, productivity improvement, and technical advisory services for cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, poultry, and other farm animals.

Community education and outreach are central to BAM Animal Clinics' mission. We conduct regular community-based education programmes that promote responsible animal ownership, animal welfare, disease prevention, and improved livestock management. Our team works directly with livestock keepers, working donkey owners, pet owners, schools, community leaders, and local governments through training workshops, village meetings, demonstrations, and veterinary outreach clinics. Our education programmes cover topics such as humane handling of animals, rabies prevention and control, vaccination, biosecurity, nutrition, parasite control, animal husbandry, and the One Health approach, emphasizing the link between animal, human, and environmental health. We also provide practical training on proper harnessing and care of working donkeys to improve their welfare and productivity. In addition, BAM Animal Clinics coordinates Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes for veterinary professionals and veterinary paraprofessionals, strengthening knowledge and skills in animal welfare, clinical practice, and emerging veterinary issues. Through these outreach initiatives, we empower communities to adopt better animal care practices, improve livestock productivity, prevent disease, and enhance livelihoods while promoting compassion and respect for animals.

Achievements

• Establishing a Trusted Community-Based Animal Welfare Organisation Since its establishment in 2009, BAM Animal Clinics has grown into a respected community-based organization providing accessible veterinary services, animal welfare education, and One Health programmes across Eastern Uganda. Thousands of livestock, companion animals, and working animals have benefited from our veterinary outreach, disease prevention, and welfare initiatives.
• Strengthening Veterinary Capacity Through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Since 2016, BAM Animal Clinics has coordinated Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes in partnership with WTS Vets United Germany and the Uganda Veterinary Council. The programme has strengthened the knowledge and skills of veterinary professionals and veterinary paraprofessionals across Uganda, improving the quality of animal healthcare and promoting higher animal welfare standards.
• Advancing Working Donkey Welfare and Community Livelihoods Through partnerships with Animal-Kind International and local communities, BAM Animal Clinics has become a leading advocate for the welfare of working donkeys in Uganda. Our programmes have improved the health, humane treatment, and management of working donkeys through veterinary care, owner training, welfare education, and promotion of improved harnessing practices, directly benefiting both animals and the families that depend on them for their livelihoods.

Partnerships

• BAM Animal Clinics has established strong partnerships and collaborations with government institutions, professional bodies, and international organizations to advance animal welfare and veterinary services in Uganda.
• Animal-Kind International (AKI) Long-term partner supporting working donkey welfare programmes, veterinary outreach, community education, and capacity building for improved animal welfare.
• WTS Vets United Germany Strategic partner since 2016 in coordinating Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes for veterinary professionals and veterinary paraprofessionals across Uganda, helping strengthen veterinary skills and animal welfare standards.
• Uganda Veterinary Council (UVC) Collaborates with BAM Animal Clinics in the accreditation and implementation of CPD programmes that promote professional excellence within the veterinary sector.
• Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) and FAO BAM works with these institutions through veterinary capacity-building initiatives and the Veterinary Paraprofessional (VPP) Programme to strengthen animal health service delivery.
• District Local Governments We work closely with District Veterinary Offices and local authorities to deliver community veterinary outreach, rabies prevention campaigns, disease surveillance, and livestock health programmes.
• These partnerships have strengthened BAM Animal Clinics' ability to deliver sustainable, community-based animal welfare programmes while contributing to improved animal health, public health, and rural livelihoods across Uganda.
