N.I.L.E. Animal Foundation

N.I.L.E. Animal Foundation is an animal welfare organization based in Jinja, Uganda, working to improve the lives of dogs and cats while helping communities build a healthier and more compassionate relationship with the animals around them. We provide spay and neuter surgeries, rabies and parvo vaccinations, deworming, flea and tick treatment, and medical care for animals in need. We also follow individual cases after our clinics, including dogs suffering from TVT, mange, injuries, or other conditions requiring additional care. Our work takes us from the streets of Jinja into villages where access to veterinary care is extremely limited. We work alongside local communities, including hunters who often own large numbers of dogs, to address the high rates of TVT, unwanted litters, and the risk of rabies. Rather than simply visiting an area once, we return to communities to follow up, treat animals in need, and sterilize puppies as they reach an appropriate age. For example, during a recent two-day clinic in Buyala, we saw 281 animals and performed 84 surgeries. We also provide education handouts on responsible pet care, after-surgery care and disease prevention such as rabies, parvo, and TVT. We partner with local schools to host the surgical clinics, creating an opportunity to reach both animals and the next generation of animal owners. Our goal is to build lasting relationships within a few villages at a time, creating meaningful change before moving on to communities with equally great need.

• Community Spay, Neuter & Disease Prevention Free community clinics providing spay/neuter surgeries, rabies and parvo vaccinations, deworming, flea/tick treatment, and education on responsible pet care and disease prevention.
• Medical & TVT Follow-Up: Ongoing treatment and follow-up for animals needing additional care, including TVT, mange, injuries, and illness.
• Individual Animal Support: Providing additional care and follow-up for dogs and cats who need extra help beyond our clinics.This also includes street dogs that need to be relocated or rehomed.

Working with local communities and LC1, hunters, and schools to promote responsible animal care, sterilization, and disease prevention.

Achievements

• Reaching 140 animals On average per day at our community clinics and being able to provide additional surgeries from serilization to animals that will drastically make their lives more comfortable and that they wouldn't otherwise be able to get.
• Seeing a reduction in advanced TVT cases In an area where we previously saw many advanced TVT cases, particularly among dogs owned by hunters, we were encouraged to find no advanced TVT cases requiring follow-up during our most recent Buyala clinic.
• Expanding beyond city-based work into underserved villages. We have begun taking our clinics deeper into villages where access to veterinary care is limited, building relationships with communities and returning to the same areas to create lasting change rather than simply holding one-time clinics.
